Iola-Scandinavia athletes shine at Sectional Track Meet in Rosholt

Several Iola-Scandinavia High School track and field athletes delivered outstanding performances at the Sectional meet in Rosholt on May 23, securing their spots at the state championships. The team placed second overall with a commendable 73 points, just behind Stratford, which topped the standings with 80 points.

Individual Highlights and State Qualifiers

Discus and Triple Jump: Korz Loken, a versatile athlete for Iola-Scandinavia, competed in both the discus and triple jump events. Loken placed eighth in the discus with a throw of 130-05 and eighth in the triple jump with a distance of 41-02.00.

100-meter Hurdles and 100-meter Dash: Jensen Rice was a standout performer, clinching first place in both the 100-meter hurdles and the 100-meter dash. Rice’s time of 14.70 seconds in the hurdles and 10.66 seconds in the dash not only earned him top honors but also qualified him for the state meet.

1600-meter Run: In a thrilling race, Ben Beck and Charlie Vater secured the top two spots in the 1600-meter run, both earning state qualifications. Beck finished first with a time of 4:24.51, closely followed by Vater at 4:24.77.

4×200-meter Relay: The 4×200-meter relay team, comprising Ryan Kampert, Korz Loken, Aiden Bowen, Izyck Olson, Burkley Myers, and Adam Vanden Bush, placed fifth with a time of 1:33.28.

4×400-meter Relay: The 4×400-meter relay team, featuring Izyck Olson, Ryan Kampert, Aiden Bowen, Jensen Rice, Billy Myers, and Korz Loken, finished fourth, clocking in at 43.77 seconds.

Shot Put: Weston Knorr delivered a solid performance in the shot put, earning fifth place with a throw of 48-03.00.

4×800-meter Relay: The 4×800-meter relay team, consisting of Ben Beck, Jack Beck, Henry Vater, Charlie Vater, Evan Linjer, and Brayden Erickson, secured sixth place with a time of 8:35.68.

3200-meter Run: Charlie Vater emerged victorious in the 3200-meter run with an impressive time of 9:32.90, earning him a state berth. Ben Beck also competed fiercely, finishing fourth with a time of 9:55.70.

The collective efforts of the Iola-Scandinavia athletes have set a high bar as they head to the state championships.
