The Village of Iola’s Public Works & Property Committee will meet at 9 a.m. Monday, Aug. 11, in the Clerk’s Office at 180 S. Main Street, to review delinquent utility accounts, consider survey results for potential water service expansion, and vote on resolutions regarding water meters and sewer charges in multi-family homes. The committee will also discuss parking restrictions, street sign replacements, and street lighting needs.
Committee Chair S. Peterson will call the meeting to order, followed by roll call and a brief public comment period, during which citizens will be limited to two minutes each. The open meeting will be conducted under Robert’s Rules of Order.
One of the first agenda items will address delinquent accounts, with members expected to review outstanding balances and determine appropriate follow-up actions per village policy.
Survey results regarding potential water service to Sunset Drive, Golf Drive, and Birch Drive will be presented. The committee will examine the findings to decide whether to recommend expanding municipal water to these areas, a move that could impact infrastructure planning and future budgets.
The committee will also consider a resolution requiring individual water meters for multi-family residences. If approved, this change would ensure that each unit is billed separately for water usage, rather than relying on a shared meter.
Similarly, another resolution will be reviewed concerning how sewer charges are applied to multi-family homes. The proposed change could alter billing practices to reflect usage more accurately and align charges more closely with each unit’s service needs.
Street maintenance will be a key topic, with members set to discuss replacing faded or outdated parking signs and evaluating current parking restrictions on village streets.
Street lighting needs will also be on the agenda, including consideration of repairs or upgrades to improve visibility and safety in certain areas of the village.
The meeting will conclude with a discussion of any other business brought before the committee, followed by scheduling the next meeting date and adjournment.
