Iola Historical Society to unveil ‘Nerd Life of Pop Culture’ with guest speaker Maggie Thompson

The Iola Historical Society will convene for its regular September meeting on Monday, Sept. 29, and will feature a special program titled “Comics, A Nerd Life of Pop Culture,” presented by acclaimed speaker and Iola resident Maggie Thompson. The event will take place at the Machine Shed, located at 222 Depot Street, and will begin at 7 p.m.

Thompson’s presentation will delve into the world of comics and characters and will explore her personal life’s evolution through the lens of pop culture. This program will serve as the highlight of the evening’s gathering, offering a unique look into a vibrant aspect of modern history.

The evening will commence with a board meeting at 5:30 p.m., followed by the membership meeting at 6:30 p.m.

Final Check-in for ‘Taste of Norway’: Members will finalize preparations for the “Taste of Norway, Lost Arts & Fall Crafts” community outreach event, scheduled for Sunday, Oct. 4.

Review of the Year: The society will review the past year, discussing its satisfactions, disappointments, and aspirations for the future.
