Iola Historical Society to meet July 25

The Iola Historical Society will hold its business and membership meeting on Monday, July 25, in the Machine Shed, 222 Depot Street.

The board will meet at 5:30 p.m. followed by the membership meeting at 6:30 p.m.

Business to be discussed is closing out the summer and Taste of Norway event.

HIS Treasurer will share his experiences in family ancestry research and interesting family secrets discovered I the process.

On Saturday, July 23, at 10 a.m., the society will unveil its latest historical marker at Riverside Cemetery.

May 31 meeting highlights

The Memorial Day event went well.

Plans for Strawberry Fest were covered. The Appraisal Fair will resume, it is being coordinated by David Harper. Suggested donations for an appraisal will be $3 per item or $5 for three or more items.

James Maus gave an excellent presentation about the history of Iola dentistry including his practice. Maus is the longest-serving dentist in the Iola-Scandinavia community.
