The Iola Historical Society will close out its 2025 meeting calendar with a program on historical restoration techniques, to be presented by veteran craftsman Terry Laib, during its monthly gathering on Monday, Oct. 27, at the Machine Shed, 222 Depot Street, Iola.
The event will begin with a board meeting at 5:30 p.m., followed by the general membership meeting at 6:30 p.m., and Laib’s presentation is scheduled for 7 p.m.
Laib, known across Wisconsin for his hands-on preservation work, will provide an overview of more than 120 restoration projects he has completed throughout the state. His presentation will give attendees a glimpse into techniques used to save historic structures and artifacts — a fitting topic for a community deeply rooted in heritage preservation. The program will serve as both an educational experience and an inspiration for future projects within the local community.
During the business portion of the meeting, the Society will review the recent Taste of Norway and Lost Arts Fair, assessing what went well and where improvements might be made for next year. Members will also look ahead to wrapping up 2025 operations and begin planning for 2026, ensuring continued growth and engagement within the organization.
In addition, members will elect the 2026 Board of Directors and officers, a key step in maintaining leadership continuity and fresh perspectives for the coming year. The proposed 2026 operating budget will also be discussed and put to a vote, determining financial priorities and supporting upcoming historical initiatives.
As this marks the Society’s final business meeting of the year, the session is expected to combine reflection and forward-looking strategy. The next scheduled Board and Membership Meetings will take place on Monday, Jan. 26, 2026, marking the start of a new year of community heritage projects.
