The Iola Historical Society is preparing for its upcoming July meetings and program, set to take place on Monday, July 31, at the Machine Shed located at 222 Depot Street in Iola.

The society has a busy schedule lined up, starting with a board meeting at 5:30 p.m. and a membership meeting at 6:30 p.m.

During the meetings, several key items will be discussed. First on the agenda is the planning discussions for the 13th Anniversary Taste of Norway event. This annual celebration showcases the culinary delights and cultural heritage of Norway, making it a highly anticipated occasion in the community.

The society will also assess the status of its visitor season, evaluating the progress made at the two-thirds mark of the season. The visitor season is an essential period for the organization, as it allows them to engage with the public, share historical knowledge, and generate support for their endeavors.

Additionally, the members will review the progress made on their summer projects. These projects play a vital role in preserving and presenting the rich history of Iola, making sure that future generations can appreciate and learn from the community’s past.

At 7 p.m., following the meetings, the Iola Historical Society has a captivating program planned. Charlie Thompson will share his personal experience of June’s “Old Glory Honor Flight” #62 Visits to DC War Memorials. The program promises to be insightful as attendees learn about the significance of the Honor Flight program and the impact it has on veterans.

The Iola Historical Society encourages everyone interested in local history and community heritage to attend the July meetings and program. It serves as a great opportunity to engage with like-minded individuals, learn about the community’s past, and support the preservation efforts of this nonprofit organization.

For those unable to attend the July events, the society has already scheduled its next board and membership meetings for Monday, Aug. 28.
