First, it was Ruby’s Pantry closing. Then an ice storm that knocked out power to thousands of people for days. On top of rising gas prices, it’s been a lot.
Some people have the resources to go get more food. Many don’t.
The Iola Food Pantry is offering another “No Questions Asked Food Box Giveaway” on Tuesday, April 7, from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. at its location at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, 395 East Iola Street.
“You don’t have to have a reason,” said Pastor Gail Kenny. “We won’t ask for ID. We ask how many are in your family, only to make sure we give you enough food and attend to any specific needs.”
Boxes contain mostly non-perishable foods, with a few perishable items, such as bread and fruit. Volunteers will help people load their cars on the John Street side of the church.
“The food is here. It doesn’t help anyone if it sits on shelves. We want people to come and get the food that the community has generously donated.” Kenny said.
