Iola CDA to approve final sign design, discuss major donation

The Village of Iola Community Development Authority will convene at 4 p.m. on Tuesday, June 10, in the Village Clerk’s Office at 180 S. Main Street, where members will finalize approval of a long-awaited community sign design, hear updates on buckthorn removal and Riverwalk bridge repairs, and consider the implications of a new $25,000 donation.

Village officials — including Jennifer Schustek, Sharyl Peterson, Jim Rasmussen, Ed Stall, and Mark Sether — will be joined by guests Greg Loescher, Charlie Wasrud, Glenn Tetzlaff, Scott Bestul, and Clifford Mishler to deliberate on several high-impact community initiatives.

At the top of the agenda, the board is expected to cast a decisive vote on the final design for a new community sign — a topic that has seen months of discussion and input from local stakeholders.

Officials will also receive a progress report from Charlie Wasrud on repair plans for the pedestrian cover bridge along Riverwalk, a historic structure that’s both a local icon and a critical link in the town’s walking trail network. Wasrud will outline timelines and any outstanding engineering or permitting hurdles.

A major point of interest will be the formal introduction of a $25,000 donation, whose donor and purpose have not yet been publicly identified.

Also scheduled are updates on invasive buckthorn removal efforts and improvement plans for Taylor Field and Olson Park, both popular recreational spaces in the Village. Community members attending the meeting will be invited to speak during the public presentation portion, with remarks limited to two minutes per speaker.

The meeting is open to the public and will be conducted under Robert’s Rules of Order, with all attendees reminded to silence their mobile devices for the duration.
