The Village of Iola Community Development Authority (CDA) took significant steps toward enhancing the town’s visual appeal and future development during its meeting on Sept. 25. Key actions included approving the refurbishment of the welcome sign along Highway 161 and deliberating future projects such as improvements to Olson Park and the Riverwalk area. The upgrades aim to bolster the town’s aesthetic and recreational offerings.
The board unanimously approved a motion to revamp the welcome sign on Highway 161. The plan includes covering the existing structure with steel and installing new sign materials, with a budget capped at $4,500. Proposed designs from Weiser Graphics were reviewed, favoring images representing the Village over generic icons. Final designs will be revisited in the next meeting.
Discussions progressed on installing electric lighting at the covered bridge, with board member Clifford Mishler coordinating with the Central Wisconsin Electric Cooperative to explore power supply options. These enhancements are part of a broader effort to improve the town’s Riverwalk area.
Options for clearing brush to improve accessibility and views along the Riverwalk are under evaluation, with plans to present detailed proposals at a future meeting.
Future village projects discussed
The board outlined various long-term initiatives to enhance the Village’s recreational infrastructure, including:
- Bike Path: Development to connect key areas for residents and visitors.
- Splash Pad and Swimming Area: New amenities to attract families and increase tourism.
- Olson Park Improvements: Comprehensive upgrades envisioned for this central community space.
These projects could benefit from potential grant funding, underscoring the need for an outdoor comprehensive plan.
