Team shuts out Shiocton 7-0

SHIOCTON – The Iola-Scandinavia varsity softball claimed the CWC-Eastern Division crown all by themselves with a 7-0 shutout win over Shiocton on Tuesday, May 14. The Thunderbirds finished their conference season with a conference record of 10-3 and their overall record of 12-8.
Senior pitcher Julia Munoz continues her strong season as she threw a one-hitter. Munoz lost her no-hit bid in the seventh inning when Liz Pelky hit a double off the right-centerfield fence. Munoz allowed one walk and had 11 strikeouts.
Sophomore Brooklyn Berrens had four of the T-Birds eight hits including a double in the third inning. Berrens had her 100th career hit in the first inning. She also drove in two runs for the game. Myah Heschke had a run-scoring double in the fifth inning.
The varsity team will travel for their final regular season game against non-conference opponent Almond-Bancroft on Thursday, May 16, due to field condition at home. The JV team will play Amherst at home on Friday, May 17. Both games will start at 4:30 p.m.

WIAA Softball Tournament Series
The WIAA softball tournament series is set to begin for Iola-Scandinavia in a regional quarter-final game on Tuesday, May 21. The Thunderbirds will play the winner of the Gillett/Suring at Shiocton game which will be played Thursday, May 16.
