I-S Softball splits two-games on Saturday

The Iola-Scandinavia varsity softball hosted a three-team round-robin tournament with Waupaca and Marathon on Saturday, May 11, and each team won one and lost one for the day.  The Thunderbirds lost to Waupaca, 7-1, in the first game, but bounced back to win the third game against Marathon, 13-9. In the second game, Marathon beat Waupaca 5-0 in the other game. The T-Birds conference record is 10-3 and their overall record to 12-8.

The varsity team will travel to Shiocton on Tuesday, May 14, to play their final conference game of the season. The Thunderbirds can claim sole possession of the conference championship with a win. The JV team will play Pacelli at Soik Field in the Woyak Sports Complex in Plover on Monday, May 13, starting at 4:30 p.m.As always, call the high school softball hotline (715-445-2411, ext. 5000) before all games to check the status of the game.

Game 1

Waupaca took a 1-0 lead in the first inning and went onto a 7-1 victory. Iola-Scandinavia scored their lone run in the sixth inning when Brooklyn Berrens tripled and scored on a single by Brylee Jueds. Berrens and Maya Munoz had three hits and two hits, respectively in the game.

Pitcher Julia Munoz went the distance in taking the loss. Munoz allowed one walk and had seven strikeouts.  The T-Bird defense struggled committing four errors.

Game 2

Rayanne Clendenning was the winning pitcher in game two.

Iola-Scandinavia scored 10 runs in the first two innings and went onto a 13-9 win over Marathon. 

Brooklyn Berrens had three hits including a triple and drove in five runs.  Myah Heschke, Abby Isermann, and Brylee Jueds each had two hits.  The Thunderbirds outhit the Red Raiders 13-12.

Rayanne Clendenning pitched the first six innings to earn the win. Clendenning allowed no walks and had three strikeouts. Freshman Charlotte Isermann pitched the final inning.  Isermann had no walks and one strikeout. The T-Bird defense had three errors in the game.
