WAUPACA – The Iola-Scandinavia softball team won one and lost one in a triangular match-up with Waupaca and Marathon at Waupaca on Saturday, May 17. The Thunderbirds beat Waupaca, 16-6, in the first game and lost to Marathon in the second game, 7-2. Marathon beat Waupaca in the third game, 13-3 to finish the day with two wins.
The split gives the T-Birds a 9-11 overall record.
Waupaca Game

In the first game, Iola-Scandinavia scored 10 runs in the first two innings, but the Comets cut the score in half, 10-5, in their top half of the third inning. The Thunderbirds responded with four runs in the bottom of the third inning and ended the game in the fifth inning with two runs due to the 10-run rule.
Waupaca outhit the T-Birds, 7-6, but the Iola-Scandinavia offense took advantage of five errors and six walks in the game. Rayanne Clendenning, Maggie Maus, and Maya Munoz accounted for all the Thunderbird hits with two hits apiece. Maggie Maus had an RBI double in the second inning and a two-run triple in the fifth inning.
Rayanne Clendenning pitched the five innings to earn the win for Iola-Scandinavia. Clendenning allowed three walks and had three strikeouts.

Marathon Game

In the second game, Marathon took an early 4-2 lead over Iola-Scandinavia after two innings. The Red Raiders added two more runs in the fifth inning and one more run in the sixth inning for the final 7-2 score.
Marathon outhit the Thunderbirds, 10-5. Charlotte Isermann had two hits and Maggie Maus had run run-scoring single in the first inning for the T-Birds.
For Iola-Scandinavia, Isermann also pitched the seven innings in taking the loss, allowing four walks and five strikeouts.
The varsity team will wrap up their conference schedule when they play two games against Menominee Nation on Monday, May 19. The first game will start at 4 p.m.
