MANAWA – The Iola-Scandinavia varsity softball team split a CWC-East doubleheader with Manawa on Tuesday, April 23. The Thunderbirds won the first game 3-0 while the Wolves took the second game 10-1. The Thunderbirds record is 8-1 in conference and 9-4 overall.
Game 1
The Lady T-Birds scored one run each in the second, third, and fifth innings. The Thunderbirds outhit the Wolves 10-3. Brylee Jueds had three hits and drove in two of the three runs. Brooklyn Berrens and Myah Heschke each had two hits including a double by Heschke.
Pitcher Julia Munoz went the distance to pick up the shutout win. Munoz allowed two walks and had nine strikeouts. The T-Bird defense had no errors in the game.
Game 2
Manawa put the game away early scoring three runs in the first two innings and adding three more runs in the fourth and fifth innings to coast to an easy victory. The Wolves outhit the Thunderbirds 13-5.
Julia Munoz had two hits and drove in the only run for the T-Birds. Ava Printz had a double.
Pitcher Julia Munoz started the game, but only pitched one inning in taking the loss. Rayanne Clendenning pitched the final six innings. Clendenning allowed one walk and had two strikeouts. The Iola-Scandinavia defense committed four errors in the game.
The junior varsity team beat Waupaca 9-7 at home on Tuesday, April 23. The win improves the junior varsity record to 4-3.
The varsity team has a few days off before traveling to Wautoma for a non-conference game on Friday, April 26, starting at 5 p.m. The JV team will go to Hortonville on Thursday, April 24, starting at 4:30 p.m.
