OCONTO – The softball season for the Iola-Scandinavia softball team came to an end on Tuesday, May 27, with a 7-4 loss to Oconto in a WIAA regional semi-final game. Oconto will travel to Bonduel for a regional championship game on Thursday, May 29.

The Thunderbirds ended their season with a 12-12 overall record. The T-Birds finished seventh in the CWC-East conference with a 5-9 record.

Oconto jumped out to an early 4-0 lead in the first inning, but the T-Birds responded with four runs of their own in the second inning to tie the game, 4-4. After two scoreless innings, Oconto scored two runs in the fifth inning and added an insurance run in the sixth inning for the final score. Iola-Scandinavia had their chances to score, but they couldn’t deliver the big hit at the right time by leaving nine runners left on base for the game.

Oconto outhit the Thunderbirds, 10-7. Rayanne Clendenning had two hits. With two outs, Braelyn Jueds, Ava Print, and Maya Munoz each had run-scoring singles in the four-run second inning.

Clendenning pitched the six innings in taking the loss for the T-Birds. She had no walks and one strikeout. The Iola-Scandinavia defense had two errors in the game.

The loss also marks the end for the three seniors: Libby Maus, Kylee Noack, and Jordynn Sullivan. We would like to thank them and their families for the time and effort they have given to the softball program.
