I-S Softball season comes to an end against Manawa 3-0

The Iola-Scandinavia varsity softball season came to an end in the regional championship game against Manawa, 3-0, on Thursday, May 23.

The win for Manawa will advance them to play Coleman in a sectional semi-final game on Tuesday, May 28. The Thunderbirds finished their season with a 14-10 overall record.

Manawa scored their first run in the fourth inning. Briley Rosin led off the inning with a triple.  With one out, Kelsey Behnke reached on a bunt single that scored Rosin.

In the sixth inning with two outs, Kelsey Behnke reached on a single, stole second, and scored on an error. Callie Pethke doubled to score courtesy runner Lilian Klatt from first base.

Iola-Scandinavia’s only real threats to score were in the first and seventh innings. The Thunderbirds left two runners on base in the first inning and had two runners on base in the seventh inning just before the final out was recorded.

The T-Birds could only manage three hits and struck out 15 times. Abby Isermann had two hits and Ava Printz had one hit. 

Pitcher Julia Munoz went the distance in taking the loss. Munoz had no walks and had seven strikeouts. The T-Bird defense had one error.
