CLERMONT, FL – The Iola-Scandinavia softball team opened its season with an 11-1 non-conference victory over Proctor High School from Utica, New York, on their spring training trip to Florida on Wednesday morning, April 8. The game was stopped in the sixth inning due to the 10-run rule.
Seniors Brylee Jueds, Brooklyn Berrens, and Katie Rosenthal each had two hits. Also having two hits were junior Maddie Karolus and sophomore Braelyn Jueds. Berrens had a three-run triple in the fourth inning and a solo inside-the-park home run in the sixth inning. Rosenthal drove in two runs on a single in the fourth inning and a double in the sixth inning. Brylee Jueds had a run-scoring double in the first inning, and Karolus had a run-scoring double in the sixth inning. Emma Printz added a run-scoring single in the fifth inning.
Rayanne Clendenning pitched all six innings to earn the win for the Thunderbirds. Clendenning allowed two walks and had nine strikeouts. The T-Birds defense had no errors to help Clendenning.
The varsity and junior varsity teams will play Notre Dame Academy from Staten Island, New York, this morning.
