I-S Softball on-the-road: loss to Amherst, win over St. Mary’s

AMHERST – The Iola-Scandinavia softball team was shutout in a CWC-East conference game at Amherst on Monday, May 5, 7-0. The loss drops the T-Birds record to 3-6 in conference and 7-7 overall.

The Falcons put the pressure on the Thunderbird defense early and often. Amherst scored all their runs in the first four innings with a combination of bunts, hits and errors.

Iola-Scandinavia was outhit by Amherst, 8-5. The Thunderbirds only had a runner get to third base once in the game, which happened in the sixth inning. Maggie Maus, Rayanne Clendenning, Brylee Jueds, Maddie Karolus, and Katie Rosenthal each had a hit. Maus had a double in the third inning.

Pitcher Rayanne Clendenning went the distance in taking the loss for the T-Birds. Clendenning allowed one walk and had 10 strikeouts. The Thunderbirds struggled defensively committing two errors.

NEENAH – The Iola-Scandinavia softball team went on the road and beat St Mary’s Catholic, 9-3, in a non-conference game on Tuesday, May 6. The win improves the Thunderbirds’ overall record to 8-7.

The T-Birds scored three runs in the first inning. St. Mary’s tied the game 3-3 in the fourth inning. Iola-Scandinavia responded with four runs in the fifth inning and added two more runs in the seventh inning for the win.

Sophomore Sophia Munoz hit her first career over-the-fence homerun.

For the Thunderbirds, Maya Munoz had three hits, including a two-run double in the first inning.  Munoz finished with three RBI’s. Ava Printz had two hits, including a two-run double in the fifth inning.  Braelyn Jueds and Maddie Karolus each had a double. Sophia Munoz entered the game in the seventh inning and hit a two-run homerun over the left-centerfield fence.

Rayanne Clendenning pitched all seven innings to earn the win for the T-Birds. Clendenning had no walks and two strikeouts.

The Thunderbirds continue to struggle defensively committing two errors.

The varsity team will host Weyauwega-Fremont on Monday, May 12, in conference game. The game will start at 4:30pm.
