IOLA – The Iola-Scandinavia softball team lost to Weyauwega-Fremont, 9-1, in a CWC-East conference game on Monday, May 12. The loss drops the Thunderbirds’ record to 3-7 in conference and 8-8 overall.
Weyauwega-Fremont scored five runs in the first two innings, which proved to be all the runs the Warhawks would need for the win. The Warhawks added four more runs in the fifth and sixth innings.
Offensively for the T-Birds, Ava Printz and Emma Printz each had two hits. Printz had a leadoff triple in the sixth inning and scored on an error for the T-Birds’ lone run. Charlotte Isermann had the other Thunderbird hit.
Rayanne Clendenning started and pitched the first innings in taking the loss for Iola-Scandinavia. She allowed six walks and had 10 strikeouts. Charlotte Isermann pitched the final inning, allowing one walk and striking out two batters.
The Thunderbirds struggled defensively, committing three errors in the game.

Lady T-Birds fall to Shiocton

SHIOCTON – The Iola-Scandinavia softball team lost to Shiocton, 5-3, in a CWC-East conference game on Tuesday, May 13. The loss drops the Thunderbirds’ record to 3-8 in conference and 8-9 overall.
Iola-Scandinavia had a 1-0 lead in the fourth inning and had a 3-2 lead in the sixth inning, but Shiocton responded with two runs in the fourth inning and three runs in the sixth inning to take the lead and eventually win the game.
Offensively, the Thunderbirds outhit the Chiefs 8-6. Maya Munoz and Emma Printz each had two hits for the T-Birds. Munoz also drove in a run with one of her hits. Maddie Karolus and Rayanne Clendenning had a double and triple, respectively. Brylee Jueds and Libby Maus each had RBI singles. Iola-Scandinavia left seven runners on base for the game.
Pitcher Rayanne Clendenning went the distance in taking the loss for Iola-Scandinavia. Clendenning allowed five walks and had four strikeouts. The Thunderbirds did have one defensive error.
The varsity team will play at Wittenberg-Birnamwood on Thursday, May 15, in a conference game. The game will start at 4:30 p.m.
