I-S Softball loses conference opener to Manawa

Manawa beat Iola-Scandinavia, 7-3, in the conference opener for both teams on Tuesday, April 8, in Iola. The loss gives the Thunderbirds at 0-1 conference record and a 1-2 overall record.

Manawa took a 4-0 lead after three innings, but the Thunderbirds battled back with three runs to make the score 4-3 after six innings. Manawa responded in the seventh inning with three more runs for the final 7-3 score.

Pitcher Rayanne Clendenning went the distance in taking the loss. Clendenning allowed 11 hits, three walks, and had two strikeouts. The T-Bird defense committed five errors in the game.

Offensively, Brooklyn Berrens had three hits, and Katie Rosenthal had a two-run double in the fourth inning for the T-Birds.

The varsity team will play at Marion on Thursday, April 10, in a non-conference game starting at 4:30 p.m.
