I-S Softball beats Tri-County and finishes regular season with 12-11 record

Tournament starts in Oconto on May 27

PLAINFIELD – The Iola-Scandinavia softball team concluded their regular season with an 11-1 non-conference win over Tri-County on Thursday, May 22. The game was stopped after the sixth inning due to the ten-run rule.

The Thunderbirds improved their overall record to 12-11 going into the WIAA tournament. The T-Birds begin WIAA tournament play next Tuesday, May 27, when they travel to Oconto for a regional semi-final game starting at 4:30 p.m. Note: There will be a $6 admission charge per person to all regional softball games.

Iola-Scandinavia scored four runs in the first inning, which proved to be enough for the win.  Braelyn Jueds started the game with a leadoff homerun over the left-centerfield fence. Jueds also had a two-run triple in the third inning. Maya Munoz had three hits and two RBIs. The Thunderbirds outhit the Penguins 13-3.

Rayanne Clendenning pitched six innings to earn the win for the T-Birds. Clendenning had no walks and had 11 strikeouts. The Iola-Scandinavia helped Clendenning out by committing no errors in the game.

The junior varsity team won their game at Tri-County on Thursday, May 22, 12-0. The young T-Birds finished the season with a 7-6 record.
