I-S Softball beats Shiocton in Regional Semi-Final Game

The Iola-Scandinavia varsity softball team beat Shiocton, 10-0, in a WIAA regional semi-final game on Wednesday, May 22. The game was stopped after five innings due to the ten-run rule.

With the win, the Thunderbirds will advance to the regional championship game today, Thursday, May 23, hosting Manawa with the game starting at 4:30 p.m. The T-Birds improved their overall record to 14-9.

Iola-Scandinavia scored in each of the five innings. Julia Munoz had three hits and drove in one run. Brooklyn Berrens, Maci Heschke, Myah Heschke, and Ava Printz each had two hits. Berrens had a run-scoring double in the first inning. Myah Heschke had a two-run double in the fourth inning and Maci Heschke had a double in the fifth inning.

Pitcher Julia Munoz pitched all five innings to earn the shutout win. Munoz allowed only two hits, no walks, and had six strikeouts. The T-Bird defense had no errors.

WIAA Softball Tournament Series

The winner of today’s game between Iola-Scandinavia and Manawa will advance to the sectional semi-final game next week Tuesday, May 28. Their opponent would be either Coleman, Bonduel, or Crivitz.
