I-S Softball beats Amherst 7-4

The Iola-Scandinavia softball team beat Amherst, 7-4, in a Central Wisconsin Conference-East match-up on Saturday, April 26. The win improved the Thunderbirds’ conference record to 2-3 and 6-4 overall.

The Falcons dropped to 1-4 in conference and 6-6 overall.

With the score tied, 4-4 going into the bottom of the sixth inning, pitcher Rayanne Clendenning helped herself out at the plate by hitting a solo homerun with one out, and the T-Birds were able to add two additional insurance runs for the winning margin.

Iola-Scandinavia outhit Amherst 10-5. Braelyn Jueds had three hits and drove in one run and Maya Munoz had two hits and drove in two runs. Katie Rosenthal had a run, scoring a double in the first inning. Emma Printz and Brylee Jueds each drove in a run.

For Amherst, Aubrey Chandler and Makenna Orsund each had two hits. Orsund had a run-scoring single in the first inning.

Pitcher Rayanne Clendenning went the distance to earn the win for the Thunderbirds. Clendenning allowed two walks and seven strikeouts. The T-Bird defense committed three errors.

Sam Nooyen pitched all six innings to take the loss for the Falcons. She allowed one walk and had three strikeouts.

The JV team lost to Amherst, 8-5, on Saturday, April 26.  The JV team’s record is 3-4.

The varsity team will travel to Manawa for a conference game on Monday, April 28, starting at 4:30 p.m.
