I-S Schools Principals’ Report

The following report was presented at the March 14 Iola-Scandinavia School District Board meeting.

Ten students will be joining the Iola-Scandinavia National Honor Society Chapter on Tuesday, March 15. Sophomores, juniors, and seniors who have a 3.33 or higher grade point average are eligible to apply for membership.  Applications are reviewed by high school staff for the qualities of outstanding leadership, character, and service.  Congratulations to the new members and their families!  Thank you to advisor, Mrs. Tamela McCartney, for all the work she does in hosting a wonderful induction ceremony and throughout the year with these students.

Over the past month, the 7th and 8th grade students have been participating in the study of different countries and their cultures.  Their hard work will be showcased at a cultural fair on Wednesday, March 16 held in the high school commons and auditorium at 1:30 p.m.

The Wisconsin Forward Exam for students in grades 7, 8, and 10 will take place between March 27 and May 3. This computer-based summative assessment provides information about what students know and can do in relation to the Wisconsin Academic Standards. Grade 7 students will be assessed in English Language Arts and Mathematics. Grade 8 students will be assessed in English Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies. Students in grade 10 will only be assessed in Social Studies.

Students in grades 9 and 10 will be taking the ACT Aspire assessments on April 26-27. The is a state assessment in the areas of math, English, reading, writing, and science.

Students in grades 3, 4, 5 and 6 will be taking the Wisconsin Forward Exam starting after Spring Break. Grades 3, 5, and 6 will be assessed in English Language Arts and Mathematics. Grade 4 will be assessed in English Language Arts, Mathematics, Science and Social Studies.

The juniors completed the ACT test on Tuesday, March 8. The ACT digital tests include: Reading, Math, English, Science, Writing. The ACT with writing helps students understand what they need to learn next so they can build rigorous high school course plans and identify career areas that align with their interests.

The I-S Literacy Team sponsored a family literacy night on Monday, Feb. 28. This was a kickoff to our school wide book The Adventures of a South Pole Pig by Chris Kurtz.

STEAM Fest was held on Monday, Feb. 28. Congratulations to all of our students for sharing their learning with us.
