I-S School District to hear recommendation on health insurance coverage

Health insurance coverage for Iola-Scandinavia School District employees will be recommended at the July 11 school board meeting.

According to the recommendation, the district will accept a Security Health Plan effective Sept. 1.

Factors favoring this choice include:

  • Plan closely matches the district’s current plan design with WEA Trust (similar benefits available)
  • SHP Premier network includes Aspirus, Marshfield Clinic, ThedaCare, Prevea, UW Health and others as in-network providers giving staff a broad option of providers to choose from.
  • Quoted premium savings (7.5% less than WEA’s 9/1/22 renewal rates).
  • Headquartered in Marshfield and has personalized customer service.
  • SHP offers staff a lower cost by not have a separate out of pocket maximum for prescription drugs.
  • Fitness Center Reimbursement available.

This is an HMO plan with no coverage for out of network providers.

The recommendation also indicates that the district will share premium savings by adjusting deduction and benefit contributions, which “reflect a 90% benefit contribution amount for single and family health plans.”

Savings outlined are: Single plan 58 cents per month or $6.96 a year; Family plan $74.05 per month or $880 per year.

The projected savings to the school district is “about $70,000.”
