The School District of Iola-Scandinavia Board of Education will convene its regular meeting on Monday, March 10, at 6 p.m. in Elementary School Room #6 to discuss a range of district matters, including the approval of fundraiser requests, policy amendments, and coaching appointments for spring sports. The meeting will also feature administrative reports, committee updates, and progress on the district referendum.
One of the key items on the agenda includes approval of fundraiser requests to support student activities. The 2026 Europe Trip group is set to sell chocolate bars to raise funds for their educational travel experience, while the track team plans to conduct a Vertical Raise campaign to gather financial support. These initiatives, if approved, will help offset costs for students participating in extracurricular programs.
The board will review several policy updates and rescissions. Policy 2266, which pertains to Title IX compliance, is set to be amended, while Policy 2264 is under consideration for rescission. Additionally, the second reading of Policy 2440.01 and Policy 8125 will take place, potentially finalizing their adoption. These updates aim to align district policies with state and federal regulations.
The Personnel & Nominations Committee, led by Chairperson Kirmse, will present recommendations for volunteer coaches in softball, track, and baseball. These appointments will ensure that student-athletes have adequate coaching support as they prepare for the upcoming season.
District Referendum and Hoffman updates
Board members will receive the latest updates on the ongoing district referendum, which could impact future school funding and facility improvements. Representatives from Hoffman are expected to provide additional information and seek approvals related to their work with the district.
The board will also discuss approvals for two overnight student trips: (1) FCCLA Leadership Conference, where students will gain leadership and career development skills, and (2) DECA Career Development Conference, an event aimed at preparing students for business-related careers.
The meeting will also have reports from the business manager, student representative, and pupil services, along with updates from district committees overseeing curriculum, finance, and transportation.
