
The School District of Iola-Scandinavia Board will convene for its regular meeting on Monday, Dec. 9, at 7 p.m. in Room 6 of the Elementary School. Board members will address district operations, review committee reports, and consider new business to support continuous improvement and planning for future initiatives.
Community members wishing to speak during the public input segment must register before the meeting begins. The board will allow comments on agenda topics, subject to time limits and procedural guidelines. This process ensures community voices are heard while maintaining meeting efficiency.
Board members will review and vote on the consent agenda, including approval of previous meeting minutes, district financial statements, acceptance of donations, and authorization of upcoming fundraisers.
The Spanish Club is seeking permission to sell gift cards for Roger’s Cinema to raise funds for the club trip. The Music Department seeks approval of its Winter Concert Bake Sale to raise funds for individual pupil activity accounts.
Our Savior’s Lutheran Church has donated $800 to needy children’s accounts. Half will be used at the elementary school, and the other $400 at the middle and high school.
Presentations will highlight developments at the elementary school and provide updates on food service operations. These reports are designed to inform the board of progress and challenges in key areas affecting student experience.
Administration Reports
The district administrator and other administrators will present updates covering curriculum, technology, special education, and student services. In the district administrator’s report, it is indicated that Dan Tapp has been hired as a middle school/high school Special Education aide. The Business Manager’s report updates the district’s finances (see charts below).
Board representatives will share news from the Wisconsin Association of School Boards (WASB) and Cooperative Educational Service Agency 5 (CESA 5). These updates provide context on statewide education trends and regional collaboration efforts.
Committee Reports
Committees on Building & Grounds, Personnel, Finance, Transportation, Curriculum, Policy, and Negotiations will report on ongoing projects and current matters. Their findings assist the board in making informed decisions about resource allocation, staffing, and policy development.
The district received a quote from August Winter & Sons of Appleton for upgrades to AC-1, AC-2, and AC-5. The estimated cost for controls and labor is $22,483.
New Business
Action items under new business include reviewing facility lease agreements, selecting a food vendor, conducting an annual administrator performance review, discussing safety drill procedures, and initiating planning for a possible district referendum. These decisions could impact district operations and future priorities.
There will also be the consideration of lease agreements with municipalities for Taylor Field in Iola and Ellison Park in Scandinavia. The cost of each lease is $1 per year.
The Board will also hear about safety drills at each of the schools. Safety training and a drill to enhance preparedness for an active shooter scenario. Fous area of improvement at the elementary school “is to identify strategies and tools to assist students with sensory sensitivities during high-stress drills.”
Two drills were conducted at the middle/high school, on Sept. 2 and Nov. 12. The former was a safety training and drill for students. The latter was an armed intruder drill, and classrooms/areas chose to lock down or evacuate. The only negative concern was in one classroom where the students were loud throughout the drill.
The Board will review the past non-recurring referendum and where the district is financially. The Budget Forecast Model is included below as is the district’s referendum history.
Upcoming meetings
The board will set dates for future meetings and identify topics for discussion, ensuring ongoing attention to district needs and strategic planning. A Working Committee meeting will be held on Monday, Jan. 5, 2026. The next board meeting is Monday, Jan. 12.
