I-S School Board to discuss policy revisions, facility safety, and staffing adjustments

The School District of Iola-Scandinavia Board is set to meet tonight, Nov. 11, at 6 p.m. in Room #6 of the Elementary School, where board members will discuss a variety of pressing issues, including policy revisions, facilities assessments, and updates to staffing and curriculum. This regular meeting will provide the community with updates on current district initiatives and future plans.

In tonight’s session, board members are expected to address recent changes and proposed updates to district policies, specifically revisions to policies 4140 and 4120. Additionally, the board will evaluate safety findings from the district’s recent Facilities Safety Self-Assessment and consider personnel changes, including a resignation and new hire.

Agenda Highlights:

  • Public Input: Community members have the opportunity to provide input by registering before the meeting. Those wishing to speak must submit a Public Input Card and wait for recognition by the Board President.
  • Consent Agenda: The board will approve last month’s minutes, audit checks, review financial reports, and evaluate fundraiser requests and recent donations. Notably, a $500 donation to support “Children in Need” from Bill and Toya will be reviewed.
  • District Presentations: Student-led groups, including DECA and the high school/middle school student council, will share updates on current activities. A report on the recent school musical production is also anticipated.
  • Reports from Administration: Comprehensive updates from the Facilities and Activities Coordinator (The Waupaca County Health Department did our Pool water and facility tests and everything came back fine. The supervisor stated, “Iola has one of the best pool facilities in Central Wisconsin.”), Principal, Administrator, Student Representative, and Buildings and Grounds team will provide insights into the district’s operational and student-related developments.
  • Old Business: Key updates on the district’s ongoing referendum projects and related approvals from the consulting firm Hoffman are scheduled for discussion.
  • Committee Reports: Chairpersons from Building & Grounds, Personnel & Nominations (David Jueds has resigned as JV volleyball coach), Finance, Transportation, Curriculum, Policy & Legislation, and Negotiations committees will present recent assessments and developments. Key topics include the High School Course Guide for 2025-26, district library plan, and proposed policy updates.
  • New Business: The board will vote on the five-year renewal for the Rural Virtual Academy (RVA) program, a significant decision that will affect digital learning opportunities for the district.
