I-S School Board to address referendum updates, coaching changes, and financial outlook

The Iola-Scandinavia Board of Education will convene its regular monthly meeting at 6 p.m. Monday, Aug. 11, in Elementary School Room #6 at 450 Division Street. The board will review referendum progress, consider personnel changes in the golf program, hear financial updates, and address other district matters during the public session.

The meeting will begin with the reading of the official notice, roll call, and the Pledge of Allegiance before the board moves to approve the evening’s agenda. Members of the public will have an opportunity to offer input, provided they register in advance and specify their topic for discussion.

The consent agenda will be considered early in the meeting, with actions expected on the approval of minutes from July sessions, auditing and approval of financial transactions, review of the treasurer’s report, fundraiser requests, and acknowledgment of gifts and donations to the district.

District leaders will then deliver presentations, including reports from the Facilities and Community (FAC) Director, the district principal, the superintendent, and the student representative. Board members will also hear updates from recent Wisconsin Association of School Boards (WASB) and Cooperative Educational Service Agency (CESA 5) meetings.

Under old business, the board will receive an update from Hoffman on the district’s referendum plans and discuss a quote for new auditorium carpeting. Committee reports will follow, with Building & Grounds, Personnel & Nominations, Finance, Transportation, Curriculum, Policy & Legislation, and Negotiations each presenting updates.

The Personnel & Nominations Committee will formally address the resignations of golf coaches Alan Bauer and Dan LeClair and present hiring recommendations, along with an update on the search for a new elementary principal.

The Finance Committee will outline the district’s current financial position and future outlook, while the Transportation Committee will review the district vehicle fleet. Other committees will provide curriculum and policy updates.

In new business, the board will review the Seclusion & Restraint Report for the 2024–25 school year and examine the Coaching Handbook for the 2025–26 season.

The meeting will conclude with announcements of future dates, including the cancellation of the Sept. 1 working committee meeting in observance of Labor Day, the Sept. 8 regular board meeting, and the Oct. 6 working committee meeting.
