The following Iola-Scandinavia Fitness and Aquatic Center report for November was submitted for the Nov. 14 Iola-Scandinavia School District Board meeting.
We completed our latest group swimming lessons and had great attendance with 80 children attending and nearly every group was full. We are planning more lessons over the winter months. Our swim instructors did a great job again and have been so valuable to the programs. Our swim instructors come from Iola and Amherst and are so good with the young children.
We have a SWIM TEAM this winter! Mr. Bobby Kuhns is going to coach the swim team this winter. So that is nice for us to have a swim team again. Swim team will start up at the end of November and practices go through early February. Information is available at the front desk and the website.
We are “hoping” to be open on Sundays in December. If we have enough staffing, we will open Sunday morning at 11 a.m. for about five hours.
The ISRA has started youth basketball and practices are starting up. On Nov. 12, the 8th grade girls are hosting a basketball tournament.
The Mishler and Fraley rooms both have been busy with weekend parties, and I expect that to continue all winter.
We continue to look for new lifeguards and have some success hiring but can use more.
This school year we have added more young children to our before-school care. The service is at capacity most days.
