The Iola-Scandinavia cross-country teams performed well at the SPASH Panther Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 14, at Standing Rocks Park. The varsity boys team secured second place in the small school division, while several individual performances highlighted the day.
Leading the way for the Iola-Scandinavia boys was Ben Beck, who crossed the finish line in 13th place overall with a time of 17:11.6. Jack Beck followed, taking 29th place in 18:24.1. Henry Vater and Evan Linjer finished neck and neck, placing 65th and 66th, both just under 20 minutes with times of 19:59.7 and 19:59.9, respectively. Their combined efforts helped secure the team’s runner-up finish in the division.
In the girls varsity race, Cedarlyn Otremba led Iola-Scandinavia with a 74th-place finish, clocking in at 24:28.0. Revyn Schrank, Ari Hahn, and Paige Timdal also contributed, finishing 89th, 93rd, and 94th with times just over 25 and 26 minutes.
The middle school runners also had a solid outing. In the boys race, John Mork placed 46th in 13:58.4, while Parker Poehlman came in 58th with a time of 14:26.8. For the girls, Nola Mae Vater took 51st, finishing in 15:43.7, with Lola Jones and Ellaina Bestul rounding out the group at 72nd and 87th, respectively.
