Helvetia Town Board to discuss comprehensive planning and road projects

The Town of Helvetia’s Board will convene for its regular monthly meeting at 7 p.m. on April 1, at the town hall on E2544 County Road GG in Iola. The meeting will cover a range of issues, including approvals of prior meeting minutes and bills, comprehensive planning proposals, road projects, township-wide garbage collection, and preparations for the upcoming annual meeting on April 15. Public input will be welcomed before adjournment.

The board will evaluate multiple comprehensive planning proposals, including those from Yah’s Refuge LLC. These discussions are expected to shape future development and land-use policies within the township. Each proposal will be reviewed to determine alignment with the town’s long-term planning objectives.

Town officials will discuss various road projects, with a focus on Carper Road. The board will open bids for road work and review plans with Scott’s Construction representative Bill Plucker. Additional topics include road sign replacements, weight limit signage, and a ditch clean-up initiative to be carried out by board members. A drive-around date for board members to assess road conditions will also be scheduled.

Town Hall maintenance and improvement projects

The board will consider several maintenance projects for the town hall, including replacing ceiling tiles, applying spray foam insulation to basement joist pockets, and addressing pest control issues. Board members Justin Hintz and Jeff Oppor will oversee these improvements.

A discussion on implementing a township-wide garbage collection service is also on the agenda. Officials may explore service providers, costs, and potential benefits for residents.

The town’s annual meeting is scheduled for April 15 at 7 p.m., where financial and operational updates will be provided. Additionally, Town Chairman Justin Hintz is set to attend the CWEC town chairman meeting on April 17 at 10 a.m.
