Town of Helvetia Hall

The Town of Helvetia Board convened its regular monthly meeting on March 4 at the Town Hall, where Chairman Jeff Oppor called the session to order at 7 p.m. With all board members present and 14 town residents in attendance, key discussions focused on a proposed comprehensive plan amendment and a potential change to town-wide garbage collection services.

Clerk Doug Hines read the minutes from the previous meeting, which were approved following a motion by Mike Grassl and a second from Justin Hintz. Financial proceedings continued with the approval and payment of town bills, and the Treasurer’s report was similarly approved, signaling stable financial operations.

Key actions taken

During the meeting, the Board acknowledged the approval of a comprehensive plan amendment for Heather Krueger, previously discussed in a public hearing. However, no action was taken regarding Yah’s Refuge, as there had been no progress on property cleanup. A new comprehensive plan amendment application submitted by Olson and Oppor was introduced, and the Planning Commission, represented by Gary Prill, approved two comprehensive plan amendments during the session.

Representatives from GFL and Harters recycling companies attended the meeting to discuss potential options for implementing town-wide garbage pickup. Residents and board members posed numerous questions, though no final decisions were made. The board stated that it would consider all options, indicating possible changes in Helvetia’s waste management approach.

Mike Grassl reported on his attendance at the Wisconsin Towns Association (WTA) quarterly meeting, noting shared information and the upcoming enforcement of road weight limits. Additionally, Chairman Jeff Oppor announced that brushing work on Carper Road had been completed and that bids for further road work were being solicited. Justin Hintz continued exploring options for replacing ceiling tiles at the Town Hall.
