Helvetia Town Board reviewing land plans, budget preparations, and road work

The Helvetia Town Board will convene its regular monthly meeting at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 7, at the Helvetia Town Hall, E2544 County Road GG, Iola, Wisconsin. The public meeting will cover a range of municipal matters, including land-use planning, road maintenance updates, town hall projects, and preparations for the 2026 budget hearing.

The session will open with the Pledge of Allegiance and the approval of the Sept. 2 meeting minutes, followed by the treasurer’s report and approval of town bills. These standard agenda items will set the stage for broader discussions about local planning and infrastructure improvements.

Land use and planning discussions

A major focus of Tuesday’s meeting will be comprehensive planning reviews involving Yah’s Refuge LLC and Olson/Oppor. The board will consider land-use details for both developments as part of the town’s long-term growth plan. In addition, a land split request from Milanowski and Stohlz will come before the board for consideration. Each of these items may affect zoning maps and property boundaries within the township.

Another notable planning item will involve the potential sale of a town-owned parcel, 08 36 24 5, located on Campbell Lake Road. The board is expected to discuss details surrounding the parcel, including its current use and value. While no final action is expected at this meeting, the discussion will likely help determine whether the sale will proceed in the coming months.

Town Hall maintenance and improvements

Several town hall and facility projects will also appear on the agenda. Updates will be provided by various members, including:

  • Justin Hintz, reporting on ceiling tile work and ditch mowing on Kelly Land.
  • Mike Grassl, confirming completion of spray-foam insulation in the basement joist pockets.
  • Jeff Oppor, overseeing ceiling repairs in the town shelter and updates on the recent fire inspection and equipment checks.
  • Joe Ambacher, completing the replacement of the cracked well casing cover.

These maintenance efforts are part of ongoing facility improvements aimed at maintaining the safety and usability of town property.

Recycling, fire, and emergency service reports

Board members will also share updates from several county and local meetings held in September, including the Waupaca County Recycling meeting (Sept. 18), the Iola Annual Recycling meeting (Sept. 22), and the Fire and Ambulance meeting (Sept. 25).

Fire safety updates will be given following the Sept. 29 fire inspection and the Oct. 4 fire extinguisher check. These reports are expected to highlight compliance with safety regulations and any corrective actions taken at town facilities.

Road and maintenance review

The board will also conduct a comprehensive road review, led by Chad Bestul, Justin Hintz, and Jeff Oppor. Topics will include:

  • Grading, gravel, and patching updates from Bestul.
  • Tractor maintenance and ditch mowing reports from Hintz.
  • Review of a quote from Waupaca County for brushing and tree cutting along Carper Road.
  • Discussion of a service agreement for snowplowing with Waupaca County for the 2026–27 winter season, presented by Oppor.

These agenda points underscore the township’s ongoing investment in road safety and winter preparedness.

The board will also set the date and time for the 2026 Budget Hearing, allowing residents to review and comment on proposed expenditures before the budget’s final adoption later this year.

Additionally, Planning Committee Chair Gary Prill will deliver updates from the committee’s recent work, likely tied to the ongoing comprehensive planning and zoning discussions.

The meeting will conclude with public input, providing residents the opportunity to address the board on town matters not already covered in the agenda. Following the discussion period, the meeting will adjourn.
