The Helvetia Town Board convened its regular meeting on March 3 at the Town Hall, where it approved the previous minutes and town bills and received updates on roads, upcoming events, and town hall maintenance.
Chairman Jeff Oppor called the meeting to order at 7 p.m. All board members were present, along with two town residents. The board recited the Pledge of Allegiance before approving the minutes of the prior meeting on a motion by Supervisor Mike Grassl, seconded by Supervisor Justin Hintz. The board also approved and paid town bills after adding missing items, again on a motion by Grassl and seconded by Hintz. It approved the treasurer’s report on a motion by Hintz, seconded by Grassl.
In new business, Clerk Doug Hines noted that the town hosted the quarterly Towns Association meeting on Feb. 19, with positive feedback on the venue and the food prepared by Grett Gruenwald. Grassl reported attending a Wisconsin Towns Association meeting on Feb. 27 that included Board of Review training. He also mentioned comments made there by Tom Tiffany, who is running for governor.
The board said it had been invited to a Waupaca County Highway Department appreciation meeting on March 30. Officials announced a “Just Fix It” campaign to protect local roads and said a supporting resolution would be considered at the April board meeting. The county is also monitoring an animal ordinance situation on County Highway E.
On town hall projects, Oppor reported he was exploring installing a lockbox for residents to drop off information. The town hall floor and chairs will be cleaned this summer, and Kotti Hintz will upgrade kitchen utensils. No updates were given on the ceiling tiles or the shelter.
Regarding roads, weight limits were scheduled to increase on Monday, March 9. Supervisor Chad Bestul had completed snowplowing for the season despite equipment issues, and the Waupaca County Highway Department had brushed Carper Road. Oppor said he would seek bids for work on Carper Road, while the town planned to have Bestul gravel and grade Moon Lake Court.
No public input was offered. Gary Prill of the Plan Commission was absent.
The board noted the annual meeting on April 21 at 7 p.m.
