Town of Iola Board approves key motions during April meeting

The Town of Iola Board convened its regular monthly meeting on Monday, April 29, at the town hall, chaired by Mark Sprangers. The meeting began promptly at 6:07 p.m. with all board members present, including Chairman Mark Sprangers, Supervisors Bruce Faldet and Josh Franchuk, Clerk Steve Madson, and Treasurer Denis Walter. Also in attendance was Waupaca County Board Supervisor Rick Ertl, who provided updates on county-level developments.

The board discussed the 2024 road projects and quotes presented by Scott Construction. Supervisor Franchuk proposed a motion to approve the road projects as presented, which was seconded by Supervisor Faldet. The motion was carried unanimously.

New Business

Clerk Steve Madson announced that the regular May monthly meeting would be rescheduled to May 20 due to the Memorial Day holiday.

Madson also reviewed several land use permits, including:

  • Doll Rev. Trust for accessory structures,
  • Nicholas Rasmussen for a chicken coop and shed,
  • Lyndon Thoe for a deck/patio and the conversion of a three-season room to a bedroom.

Additionally, a shoreland permit for a structural modification was issued to Valerie Thoe Trust. Building permits were also granted for various projects by Lyndon Thoe, Justin Moen (for a transfer switch), Jim Slezak (for a dwelling), and Charles Jones (for a shed).

Supervisors Faldet and Franchuk reviewed and approved the town books. Following this, Franchuk made a motion to pay the monthly bills, which was seconded by Faldet and carried without opposition.

Annual Meeting

The board’s annual meeting was also held on April 29. The board reviewed the 2023 revenues and expenses, with Franchuk moving to approve the report, seconded by Faldet. The motion was carried.

Treasurer Denis Walter made a motion to designate Bank First of Iola as the town’s bank, which was seconded by Franchuk and carried. Franchuk then motioned to designate Attorney Bruce Meagher as the town’s attorney, seconded by Faldet, and the motion was carried.

Franchuk also moved to allow the town to borrow money at the discretion of the Town Board, which Walter seconded. The motion was approved.

Lastly, after reviewing the current Town Board wages, Franchuk made a motion to maintain the current wage levels, seconded by Walter, and the motion carried. Walter also proposed holding the 2025 Annual Meeting on April 28, 2025, which Franchuk seconded. The motion was unanimously approved.
