Gale A. (Cowboy) Peterson

August 28, 1929 – September 11, 2021

Gale A. (Cowboy) Peterson, age 82 of Iola, Wisconsin, passed away on Saturday, Sept. 11, 2021.

He was born on Aug. 28,1939, in Waupaca, Wisconsin, to the late Edwin and Irene (Duten) Peterson.

In his younger years he was with the National Guard as a rifleman where he got his knowledge of shooting that eventually led to his love of hunting.

He married Virginia Becker and they dairy farmed and rode the rodeo circuit around the States.

After giving up dairy farming and their divorce in 1976, he went on to drive truck for varies companies, with Anthony Farms in Scandinavia, Wisconsin, being where he ended up retiring from driving. 

Gale’s passion was the outdoors, whether he was hunting, fishing, cutting wood, hanging with friends and family on hayrides or just letting go with his “Hodag” family he was always the life of the party. Gale took great pride in his house he was building and his grandchildren. He was the type that was there for anyone who needed help or just a cup of coffee and an unforgettable “Good Morning” no matter what time of the day it was.

Gale is survived by two sons Charles Peterson of Iola, and Mike Peterson of Waupaca; a daughter Sandy (Carl) Vaughn of Weyauwega, Wisconsin; seven grandchildren: Bobbi Jo (Bob) Mlodzikowski , Christopher  (Stephanie) Peterson, Cassy Olson, Amber Olson, Lakota Vaughn, Lisa (Joshua) Palkowski, and Dakota Peterson; and 16 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by two brothers Greg (Janine) Peterson of Waupaca and Gary (Susie) Peterson of Burlington, Wisconsin. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother Glenn Peterson.

Memorial services for “Cowboy” will be held on Friday Oct. 8, 2021, at 1 p.m. at the Voie Funeral Home in Iola with Rev. Dan Somers officiating. Visitation will be held Friday from 11a.m. to 1 p.m. at the funeral home.  A lunch gathering will be held at Silver Lake Lanes following the service all are welcome to attend.
