SOUNDS OF THE VIKINGS: Wisconsin Public Radio highlighted the accomplishments of Iola’s Eric Bestul in recreating the sounds of the Vikings on musical instruments. Eric and his wife own Lessons from the Arts in Iola. “Bestul has spent the last three years studying Viking music. He builds instruments similar to those in the historical record. As Skogtroll, he writes and records music in the style of what those villagers might have heard at that spring festival – even though he admits the process involves some guesswork,” the online article states. STATE TESTING STANDARDS FIGHT: An audit announced this week of changes in recent state testing standards is the latest reaction of Republican lawmakers to changes the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction (DPI) approved last year in the names and cut scores for achievement levels.
