SIM SWAP SCAM: The Dane County Sheriff’s Office is alerting residents to a rise in SIM Swap cases. This scam involves transferring a victim’s phone number to the scammer’s device. The sheriff’s office advises people to enhance their phone security. AT&T users can create a password in their online account under “manage extra security.” T-Mobile offers “Account Takeover Protection,” and Verizon has a “Number Lock” feature.
