Frederic “Fritz” L. Schlicher

December 3, 1930 – August 6, 2025

Frederic “Fritz” L. Schlicher, 94, of Iola, Wisconsin, went to his heavenly home on Wednesday, Aug. 6, 2025.

He was born on Dec. 3, 1930, in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin, to Rudolph and Marian (Baldwin) Schlicher.

Fred married Norma Schroeder on June 26, 1954, in Port Washington, Wisconsin. She preceded him in death on March 3, 1999. He later married Nancy (Latham) Schlicher on Sept. 22, 2000, at Hitterdahl Lutheran Church.

He is survived by his wife, Nancy of 24 years; son, Jim (Patty) Schlicher, of Iola; daughter, Sally (Melvin) Cintron of Panama; grandchildren, Jaimie, Nicole, Amanda (Peter), Jonathan (Taylor), and Michael; great-grandchildren, Aubrey, Calvin, Ava, and Cohen. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Norma; son, John; brothers, Jack and Bob; and sister, Mary Ann.

As a lifelong educator, Fritz gained his knowledge at multiple institutions, attending UW-Whitewater, University of Iowa, Knox College, Drew University, Portland State University, University of Oregon and Lawrence University.

After serving three years in the U.S. Army, he taught at Janesville H.S., Shullsburg H.S., and Wayland Academy, where he started the Computer Science Department, taught Math and Physics, coached football, served as Director of Studies, and was a member of the board of trustees.

Fritz loved the outdoors and traveled extensively in the U.S. and abroad. In 1973 he bought 80 acres of hardwood trees north of Iola, where he settled in retirement. While retired, he served as president of the Lions Club, president of the Hitterdahl Lutheran church council, zoning deputy of Town of Iola, and a lifelong member of the Wisconsin Woodland Owners Association. The Funeral Service for Fritz will be held on Saturday, Aug. 9, at 1 p.m. at the Hitterdahl Lutheran Church with Rev. Dale Wilson officiating. A visitation will be held on Saturday at the church from noon to 1 p.m. Interment will be at Hitterdahl Lutheran Cemetery. Following the service, friends and family will continue to celebrate Fritz’s life with light refreshments at the church.
