Dorothy (Dot) Remington

October 29, 1928 – January 22, 2025

Dorothy (Dot) Remington, beloved grandmother, mother, and friend, passed away peacefully on Jan. 22, 2026, at the age of 97, surrounded by the love of her family and friends.

She was born Oct. 29th, 1928, in Baltimore, Maryland, to Ida (Chmielewski) and Louis Golis. It was a chance meeting at a roller skating rink during WWII that she met her husband, Donald (Don) Remington. Upon returning from war, Don and Dot were married on July 19, 1947, in Baltimore and relocated back to Don’s hometown in Antigo, Wisconsin.

Dot dedicated her life to her family and home, having raised six boys and run a successful grocery business with her husband. In 1966, Don and Dot purchased the Adam’s IGA grocery store in Iola, Wisconsin, and named it the Iola IGA. In 1980, Don and Dot built a new grocery store on Meadow Road in Iola, modernizing it and expanding their operation. They sold their business to their son, Dan (Kathy) Remington, in 1995 and enjoyed many years of retirement together.

Dot loved her family and found joy in life’s simple pleasures – family, a good book, cooking, her Catholic faith, and traveling.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Don; her sons, Rex and Darrell Remington; her grandson, Lucas Remington; and her great-granddaughter, Lillias Remington Schmick. She is survived by four sons, Dale (Wendy) Remington, Dan (Kathy) Remington, Dean (Wendy) Remington, and Rick (Heather) Remington; her brother, Donald (Patricia) Golis; a myriad of cherished grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and many extended family members and friends who will miss her dearly.

Above all, Dot will be remembered for her sense of humor, devotion to her family, effusive smile, and warm hugs.

A private family graveside service will be held at a later date. Register book and online condolences may be sent by visiting www.voiefuneralhome.com. The family extends heartfelt thanks to the caregivers at Point Manor and especially River View Lodge for their compassion and support.
