Donald Halverson

March 20, 1934 – January 4, 2021

Donald G. Halverson, age 86, of Tomahawk, Wisconsin, passed away at his home on Jan. 4, 2021, under the care of Aspirus Hospice and surrounded by his family.

Don was born on March 20, 1934 in Iola, Wisconsin, to Hans and Alma (Severson) Halverson.

He served our country with the United States Army. He was active for two years and also served in the reserves for 18 years. Don was an active member of American Legion Post 93 and served many years on the local Honor Guard. In September 2012, he went on the Honor Flight.

Don was married to Carolyn Rice on Sept. 26, 1959, in Northland, Wisconsin. Together they had two children.

He worked as a meat cutter for many years. He worked at IGA in Iola and Stevens Point, the Veterans Home in King and also 26 years at Lincoln Hills before retiring July 8, 1996.

He was an active member of Grace Lutheran Church. He also was involved with Boy Scouts and Tomahawk Fishing Unlimited.

Don is survived by his wife of 61 years – Carolyn Halverson of Tomahawk, and his children – Daniel (Dawn) Halverson of Eagle River & Dana Halverson of Stoughton. He is further survived by his brother – Hans (Joann) Halverson of Milwaukee, three grandchildren – Mara Jane, David & Danielle and brother-in-law – Dennis (Janie) Jole of Canon City, Colorado. The Funeral Service with Military Honors for Don Halverson took place at noon on Thursday, Jan. 7, 2021 at Krueger Family Funeral Home. Pastor Susan Christian officiated. Burial will take place at Oak Hill Cemetery in the springtime.
