Dennis L. McGlin obituary

Dennis L. McGlin

June 18, 1954 – December 16, 2020

Dennis L. McGlin, age 66, formerly of Menasha and recently Iola, WI, entered eternal life to be with his Lord, with his family by his side, on Dec. 16, 2020, after several years of battling cancer.

Dennis was born June 18, 1954, in Appleton, Wisconsin, to Joseph and Hazel (Horn) McGlin. Denny inherited his mother’s sense of humor and his father’s easy-going personality which helped him through life to deal with polio and subsequent surgeries throughout his youth and cancer treatments for the last few years of his life. Always smiling and forever strong.

Dennis married his best friend, Susie Thoe, on Sept. 8, 2009, in a small ceremony with two of their good friends, Andy (his little buddy) and Jeannie Berndt as best man and matron of honor. Their reception was at their McGlin’s Bar in Navarino, Wisconsin.

Dennis made many friends of all ages with his easy-going personality, and willingness to help the other guy. His friends were always there for him, especially good friends, Donald “Red” Thulien, Andy Berndt and Mike St. Louis. His true enjoyment was spending time fishing with his wife, grandchildren and friends on his pontoon boat. Dennis also enjoyed deer hunting, shooting pool, and the quiet of the country. He and Susie loved traveling in their RV and made even more friends in Arizona.

Survived by his loving wife, Susie; his daughter, Denise (Robert) Olsen; step-child, Nicholas Johnson; grandchildren, Caylee and Sophie Olsen; step-grandchildren, Bryan Thoe, Allexis and McKenna Johnson; brother and sisters, Joyce (Roger) Cummings, Patricia (Larry) Schisel, Kathleen (Eugene) Laux, Michael (Marla) McGlin; sister-in-law, Dona Frakes; father-in-law, Larry Thoe; nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends, and a special cat named Mario.

Dennis was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Hazel McGlin; his brother, Richard Frakes; and step-son, Nathan Thoe.

Private family services will be held. There will be a Celebration of Life at the Thirsty Perch, 195 Water Street, Iola, at 1 p.m. Monday, Dec. 21.
