He graduated from Little Wolf High School in Manawa, Wisconsin, in 1963. That same year he enlisted in the United States Army for four years. Two years were spent in Japan and Washington, D.C., as military police.

He married Sandra Knutson in 1968 at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Iola, Wisconsin, and they spent 56 happy years together.

And then spent many years hauling and setting houses for MillCraft housing out of Waupaca, Wisconsin. Dave drove a school bus for the Manawa School District for 23 years while raising three boys and keeping honeybees.

He was a member of the Wisconsin Honey Producers Association for 50 years. During that time, he served as president for two terms and won numerous awards. He also helped establish the Waupaca County Beekeepers Association, which is still ongoing with many members. In the Town of Saint Lawrence in Ogdensburg, he served as town chairman for 18 years.

He enjoyed fishing and camping in Canada, Minnesota, and Wisconsin with lots of good friends. Glen Cairn Golf course was a lot of joy for him and his buddies and wife. One of his adventures was to chaperone the youth group from Our Savior’s Lutheran Church to the Quetico/BWCA for nine years with Pastor Houts and lots of young people.
