David Barger

March 17, 1963 – May 19, 2024

David Barger, age 61, of Stevens Point, Wisconsin, formerly of Iola, Wisconsin, passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 19, 2024, after a lifelong battle with Type 1 diabetes.

David was born on March 17, 1963, in Berwyn, Illinois, the son of Patricia and Jerry Barger. The family moved to Iola in 1966 and his father passed in 1977.  

David attended Iola-Scandinavia schools from kindergarten through high school, where he participated in band, chorus, Art Club, and theater productions, graduating in 1981. He attended the University of Wisconsin, Madison, and DeVry Technical Institute in Chicago, earning a Bachelor of Science Degree in Electronic Engineering.

In his adult years, he enjoyed rock and fossil hunting, scuba diving, and designing with Lego. David married Debi Morey in 1986. They later divorced but remained friends. 

David was employed by several firms in Illinois and Wisconsin, including Consolidated Papers and E.O. Johnson, as an electronics maintenance specialist. He retired in 2021 on disability from Worzella Publishing in Stevens Point. 

Surviving family members include his mother and stepfather, Patricia and Keith Williams of Iola; brothers Mark Williams (Christine) of Custer, Wisconsin, Andrew Williams (Chelsea Lovejoy) of Menominee, Wisconsin; nephew Iain, niece Kayla, other relatives, many good friends, and his four-legged companions.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, June 1, 2024, at 11 a.m. at Voie Funeral Home, Iola. The Rev. Dale Wilson will officiate. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 9:30-11 a.m.  A memorial luncheon featuring David’s musical favorites will follow at Iola Mills on Main Street in Iola. 

In lieu of flowers memorials in memory of David may given to the Portage or Waupaca County Humane Society.
