U.S. Rep. Mike Gallagher of the 8th Congressional District has been chided by the Waupaca County Republican Party for his choice of effective resignation date as a “dereliction of duty” and a “betrayal of citizens”.
Joel Bartel, chair of the party, wrote:
“Mike Gallagher’s recent decision to resign from Congress is a dereliction of duty and is a betrayal of the citizens of the 8th District and Waupaca County. Mike Gallagher hides behind the Marine Shield and is leaving his post before his term ends; no Marine would ever do that when times are tough at home. Because of this we in Waupaca County and members of the 8th District are excited that he has resigned from the 118th Congress and demand he does it immediately. We view this as a win for the 8th District and the United States as we look forward to a special election this spring or the November election where we can elect a strong Patriotic Congressman to serve the 8th District. We wish nothing but the best for Congressman Gallagher with his new career, which we feel he used his position in Congress to obtain. Finally, let us be clear we will never support him in District 8 or Wisconsin Politics again!”
The Waupaca County Republican Party has about 125 paid members.
