Clarification on the burning ban from the DNR

By Iola Fire & Ambulance

Annual Burning Permits: These are suspended indefinitely due to fire danger and to reduce contacts in-regards-to Covid 19. This means no debris burning in a barrel or out in the open.

Special Burn Permits: Special burn permits are also cancelled except for agricultural purposes (clearing brush to plant crops etc.) or new construction (i.e. lot clearing for new construction) and are time sensitive. These are still allowed and DNR will address each request on an individual basis.

Cooking or Warming Fires (i.e. campfires): Although discouraged cooking and/or warming fires are allowed with legitimate firewood in a legitimate location (i.e. campfire ring or pit). Burning brush or yard debris in a campfire ring or pit is a debris fire and not a cooking or warming fire.

Stay safe! And remember … we are all in this together!
