Chet Krause Legacy Park debuts new restroom facilities

New $60,000 unisex restroom facilities.

A major development will soon enhance Chet Krause Legacy Park, as committee leaders prepare to unveil new unisex restroom facilities by June 2025. The upgrade, made possible by a $50,000 Vibrant Spaces grant from the Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation (WEDC), will serve as a pivotal addition to the park.

The funding will specifically go toward completing a $60,000 restroom project that features modern, flushable, unisex bathrooms. These new facilities will increase accessibility and comfort for visitors, further supporting the park’s mission of community engagement and inclusiveness.

Chet Krause Legacy Park stands as a living tribute to Chester L. Krause, the visionary founder of Krause Publications. Once the world’s largest publisher of hobby periodicals, Krause Publications left a significant cultural imprint, and the park honors that legacy.

In addition to the restrooms, the park will introduce several enhancements that highlight the area’s rich publishing history. Three tablets will be installed within the grounds to recognize the contributions of more than 2,000 employees who worked at Krause Publications between 1952 and 2002. These permanent markers will offer visitors a deeper connection to the park’s historical roots.

Visitors can also expect practical and thoughtful additions. A new dual drinking fountain — one for people and another for pets — will be installed, ensuring hydration needs are met for all.

The effort is the latest in a series of community-driven projects. The Chet Krause Legacy Park Committee, composed of dedicated members including Cliff Mishler, Dave Harper, Pamela Parks, Mark Sether, Charlie Wasrud, Greg Loescher, Jerry Kopecky, and Mark Doll, has already raised over $429,284 entirely through grants and private donations. Their tireless commitment continues to transform the park into a vibrant and welcoming space for residents and tourists alike.

With the support of WEDC and the dedication of community members, Chet Krause Legacy Park is poised to become an even more dynamic and meaningful place by the summer of 2025.
