The Iola-Scandinavia High School boys’ cross-country team turned in a commendable performance at the Marshfield Nightfall Classic on Thursday, Sept. 28, placing 6th out of 16 competing teams. Led by standout Ben Beck, who finished 4th overall with an impressive time of 16:17.93, the Thunderbirds showcased their depth and determination on the challenging course in Marshfield.
Beck’s strong finish helped anchor the team’s overall success. His younger brother, Jack Beck, followed up with a solid 18th-place finish, clocking in at 17:52.98. Rounding out the scoring runners for Iola-Scandinavia were Evan Linjer, who secured 33rd place with a time of 18:33.50, and Henry Vater, close behind in 35th, finishing at 18:35.86.
On the girls’ side, despite a valiant effort, the Iola-Scandinavia varsity girls’ team struggled against tough competition, finishing last. Cedarlyn Otremba led the girls’ team, placing 44th with a time of 23:13.92, while Revyn Schrank finished 54th at 23:37.67.
