The Iola-Scandinavia High School boys’ cross-country team delivered an impressive performance at the Standing Rocks Invitational on Friday, Aug. 29, with Ben Beck leading the way to victory. Beck, a standout junior, claimed first place in the boys’ race with a time of 17:24.70, outpacing the competition and setting the tone for the rest of his team.
Henry Vater and Jack Beck followed closely behind, finishing in 4th and 5th place with times of 19:09.10 and 19:09.70, respectively. Their strong finishes helped secure a solid overall team performance. Evan Linjer also contributed significantly, crossing the line in 13th place with a time of 20:19.60.
On the girls’ side, Cedarlyn Otremba was the top finisher for Iola-Scandinavia, placing 12th with a time of 25:01.20. Revyn Shrank followed, finishing 20th with a time of 26:44.30.
The middle school athletes also competed admirably, with John Mork and Parker Poehlman placing 12th and 14th in the boys’ race, clocking times of 14:34.40 and 14:47.90, respectively. Nola Mae Vater represented the girls’ middle school team, finishing 30th with a time of 16:50.90.
The meet showcased the depth and talent of Iola-Scandinavia’s cross-country program, with standout performances from both high school and middle school athletes. The team’s success at the Standing Rocks Invitational sets a promising tone for the rest of the season.
