Beck, Schrank lead Iola-Scandinavia at Standing Rocks Invitational

Iola-Scandinavia runners turned in standout performances at the Standing Rocks Invitational, with seniors Ben Beck and Revyn Schrank each capturing individual titles while leading their teams to top-five finishes.

In the boys’ 5,000-meter race, Beck broke away from the field early and never looked back, claiming first place in 17 minutes, 9.8 seconds. His effort helped propel the Thunderbirds to a fourth-place team finish with 86 points, while Amherst captured the title with 45. Beck’s younger brother, Jack Beck, followed with a strong showing, crossing in 11th at 19:52.56, and teammate Evan Linjer wasn’t far behind, taking 14th in 20:09.00. Rounding out the varsity scoring for Iola-Scandinavia were Zavier Shelley (41st, 24:06.40), Brycen Jorgensen (46th, 25:51.90), and James Olson (49th, 25:58.90).

On the girls’ side, Schrank set the pace from the gun and held it to the finish, winning the 5,000-meter race in 21:51.30. Her performance anchored the Thunderbirds to a fifth-place team result with 107 points, with Amherst again leading the way with 48. Cedarlyn Otremba was the team’s next finisher in 23rd at 25:47.30, followed by Paige Timdal (39th, 27:44.70), Ari Hahn (40th, 27:47.50), Rayanne Clendening (48th, 29:12.00), and Kaia Anderson (50th, 29:24.40).

The Thunderbirds also found success in the middle school races. On the boys’ side, the team placed fifth with 120 points, paced by a tight pack of Parker Poehlman (14th, 13:45.90), John Mork (15th, 13:49.40), and Daniel Burns (18th, 14:21.60). Jayden Perales (41st, 16:03.30) and Grayson Linjer (42nd, 16:09.70) rounded out the scoring.

For the girls’ middle school 3,200-meter race, Nola Mae Vater led the way with an 11th-place finish in 14:40.10. She was followed by Lola Jones (22nd, 16:40.10), Ellaina Bestul (38th, 17:57.90), and Lily Ivey (50th, 19:52.70).
